Housing supply and rent pressures highlighted

New modelling commissioned by REIA and other industry bodies.

Independent modelling commissioned by the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA), Master Builders Australia, and the Property Council of Australia suggests measures announced in the 2026 Federal Budget could reduce housing supply and place further pressure on rents over the next four years.

The modelling forecasts more than 8,700 fewer homes being built and rental increases of up to $9 per week, prompting industry groups to call for changes to the Government’s housing package to help achieve the National Housing Accord target of 1.2 million new homes by 2029.
